In this article, I'll share with you 7 ultra-processed foods that you're probably consuming but should avoid as much as possible. Why? Because they are very harmful to your health.
I'm often asked:
- What foods should I eat? Or not eat?
- How do we know if it's processed and harmful?
- Which ones should I avoid?
Well, let's focus on what the research says (I learned this from a well-known doctor named Nick Zyrowski). According to a meta-analysis that examined how harmful some ultra-processed foods are to our overall health, they are linked to 32 different conditions;
- sleep problems,
- increased anxiety disorders,
- increased mental disorders,
- increased mortality,
- as well as an increase in deaths related to cardiovascular diseases.
What are these foods:
1/ Sugary foods. Instead, consume foods containing natural sugar, like fruit.
2/ Bad fats and fried foods. Bad fats, mainly used in restaurants, are heated to a very high temperature causing inflammation in the body. Instead, consume fats like olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, or ghee.
3/ Processed meats. Because they have many low-quality ingredients mixed in them.
4/ Processed cheeses. Because they are full of emulsifiers (food additives) to make them look good and taste good.
5/ Sugary drinks and juices. Because they are mainly full of added sugars.
6/ Potato chips. Because they are usually fried and full of low-quality ingredients. 7/ Packaged foods. Because most of the time they are loaded with many bad ingredients.
So in conclusion, try to consume as many natural foods as possible and minimize the consumption of the 7 foods I mentioned. Just by making these small changes in your lifestyle, you'll experience a tremendous change in mood and energy.
I hope this article has helped you become more aware of what you're eating.
A big hug, your coach Luis
